George McGovern Recomends Impeachment

Sunday’s Washington Post has an amazing article by George McGovern called Why I Believe Bush Must Go: Nixon Was Bad. These Guys Are Worse. Wow if this Republican Democrat can say it why can’t more? Obviously he’s of a different faction than the Neo-Cons… But THIS is a milestone.

Bush and Cheney are clearly guilty of numerous impeachable offenses. They have repeatedly violated the Constitution. They have transgressed national and international law. They have lied to the American people time after time. Their conduct and their barbaric policies have reduced our beloved country to a historic low in the eyes of people around the world. These are truly “high crimes and misdemeanors,” to use the constitutional standard.

Is this the proof of the existence of a mainstream bipartisan movement to impeach George Bush and Dick Cheney? Come on Republican and Democrats. Save your political soul and JUST DO IT! Learn more at VoteToImpeach.org. Its about time we set the historical record straight. George and Dick are awful leaders. They are the worst the US has EVER had. Lets make sure no one forgets. Impeachment will set their truthful record in stone.

I Support Obama

I’ve always been impressed with Barak Obama. Ever since Ruby and I watched him speak at the Democratic National Convention in 2004. (Video on YouTube.) But at the time I felt he was too mild and moderate a Democrat. That night I was most impressed with Al Sharpton’s speech. Ironically it was interrupted by the sound of concussion grenades going off in our neighborhood. The local police had launched an attack on a crack house down the street. In the process they detained over fifteen people. This occured RIGHT when Sharpton was talking about the injustices against African Americans in our country. (The flip side of that story is the abuse of an elderly woman who lived in that house. She was suffering thanks to the crack heads who had taken over her home.) Needless to say it made a dramatic impression on me. At least in how I feel about some National Democrats.

GOP Candidate Cho Gets Another My View Column

The December 9, 2007 Chapel Hill News ‘My View’ column titled GOP chair Cho to challenge Price contained the following:

A former Presbyterian minister and tae kwon do instructor, Cho is a writer raising two children in Chapel Hill. He has been writing a monthly My View column for the Chapel Hill News. His column will go on hiatus during his run.

Now on December 26, 2007 Mr Cho has another column in the Chapel Hill News titled ‘Soul patrol.’ (It’s not online yet. I just pulled it out of my driveway at 12AM.) At the end of Mr. Cho’s column today is this excuse,

This is his last My View for now. Cho’s column is on hiatus as he campaigns for the Republican nomination for U.S. House District 4.

To me this column contradicts the first one. His column was supposed to “go on hiatus.” Second, its a clear violation of the News’ journalistic principles. Will Congressman Price get a My View column so he can promote his personal values too?

Presidential Candidates answer Ruby's Question

Ruby has her Question Answered Click image for bigger pic

Ruby Sinreich asked a question about Transparency in politics with a video. Then she uploaded it to blip.tv and shared it with 10questions.com. It was then voted on by thousands of people. Eventually it made it to the top 10. Now we have US presidential candidates answering (or attempting to) her individual question. (as of December 20, 2007) Obviously a question many people want answered. Go Girl!

Isn’t this a kind of direct answer from politicians you want?

Video: Why Jim Neal is going to Win

I went to a fundraiser for the Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Jim Neal. Shot a some video of him speaking. Its so great to have a progressive North Carolina Democrat running against Sen. Dole. I hope to get some more video of him as he campaigns. Stay tuned. (BTW… I donated my time and energy to produce this.)

Stop Media Consolidation

Watch this Bill Moyer’s video about the latest FCC attack on our media freedom. It explains the threat very clearly. Such amazing footage of the Seattle FCC hearing held recently.

More info here on Freepres.net. Bipartisan Bill to Put the Brakes on FCC

If you are on Facebook consider joining the 100,000 by 12/18/07 to Fight Media Consolidation group. Here are some action items.

1. Invite all of your friends this group. Most of the “100,000” or “1 million” strong groups are meaningless. If we can get thousands of people on facebook to contact the FCC and their Senators there is a good chance we can actually stop this disastrous rule change.

2. Contact the FCC

3. Contact your Senators

4. Learn More
Please do whatever you can to spread the word about this. Media consolidation is one of the most overlooked issues in contemporary political discourse. Without access to diverse and distinct media sources, our Democracy itself is in peril. Make sure your voice is heard on this critical issue.

Elections are Over Yeah!

I get excited over local elections. Ever since I met Ruby and moved to Chapel Hill I’ve been hooked. I love learning about this whole process. One of my favorite bits this year was Ruby’s election coverage videos. (I’m a bit jealous actually. I want to do vids like this!) She made these with her Palm Treo 680 and a audio headset.

This is great citizen journalism that gets the info out there. Yes I said journalism. Ruby has publicly said many times she doesn’t consider herself a journalist. But she is providing information people want and need. She is trusted by many and scorned by others, but such is the life of a politico with a strong opinion.

Obama Supports Net Neutrality

I recored a video question for the Presidential candidates the other day for 10questions.com about Network Neutrality. So did someone else. He did a much better job than I. 🙂

So Move On sent out a email with a link to this great video and within hours it was at the top of the voting pile. (Matter of fact on the same day that the email came from Move On, Oct. 28, this video was voted for 4,332 times. 83 against and 4,250 for. See Voting History data.) Here’s the video:

Because this video question was the top vote getter it was asked to Sen. Obama at the MTV/MySpace forum. They played the entire YouTube clip on MTV for the local audience and the TV audience. Luckily we have a copy of this on YouTube here.

Sen. Obama did a good job of explaining what is at stake and why we need Net Neutrality. Something that college age citizens really understand. I’m very happy to hear his commitment to protecting our somewhat level playing field online. Fact is the democratic party wouldn’t have so much power from its base if the Internet wasn’t as free as it is. I think it could be even more free but we MUST protect what we have. (How could it be more free? For starters we need the HIGHEST speed broadband made available to EVERY home in America.)

This is a pretty good example of participatory democracy in the 21st Century. We created our own questions, voted for them, and had them presented to candidates live on global TV. This is how the CNN YouTube debates should have been done. This is only the start of creating a more participatory and just democracy in our country.

What really blows my mind is the power of email and web advocacy to promote a cause and insert our collective concerns into a National debate. The work isn’t done yet. Now we have to get other candidates to talk more about Net Neutrality. (Back in May Sen. Edwards spoke at Google and addresses Net Neutrality) [video] Learn more about Net Neutrality at the SaveTheInternet.com FAQ.

I’m going to call the Kucinich Campaign next.
