North Carolina Online Gubernatorial Debate

The wonderful state politics website BlueNC is hosting the first North Carolina gubernatorial ONLINE debate! You can leave a question for the candidates over at the blog post We’re on.

Here is my question. I’m looking forward to their answers.
“If elected Governor what *specifically* will YOU DO to address the threat of global climate change in the State of North Carolina?”

As you may have noticed Federal politics in the US has undergone a big transformation thanks to the Internet. State politics are a bit behind. Especially at the gubernatorial level. So I believe this is a HUGE milestone in the history of North Carolina state politics. So be a part of history! Participate and vote!

Tell Jim Rogers to Cancel Cliffside!

Recently Duke Energy received permission from the State of North Carolina to build a new coal fired power plant in Cliffside, North Carolina. Despite the facts that this new plant could be a major polluter of CO2, mercury, and evaporate 21 million gallons of water each day. You can find all the details here on NC Warn’s website.

Duke Energy CEO Jim Rogers claims a giant coal-fired power plant would be “good for the environment.” This is nothing but green scamming. Watch this short video about his claims and the facts.

“Stopping this new plant is the best thing you can do to stop global warming.” – Dr. James Hansen, Director, NASA’s Goddard Institute

When you’re done contact Mr. Rogers and tell him to cancel Cliffside!

An Obama/Edwards ticket?

No disrespect to my friends who support John Edwards. I believe he is a excellent Presidential candidate. But imagine this. What about a Obama/Edwards ticket? What if John Edwards ran with Obama as his Vice President? A white Southern man who serves beside a black President from Chicago. We could have this soon. It could amplify the already powerful potential for healing that a black President will bring. It would say, YES! We are equal. North and South. Black and White. Because I believe equality is a kind of give and take. Whites have taken way to much from Blacks. Its time we gave back. Please give back with humility Mr. Edwards.

Its not only time for a black President but for white men to serve him. (Myself included.) The 21st Century American South can do this and not be ashamed. We can be proud that we work together for the same causes. Social and economic equality for everyone regardless of race, gender, sexual orientation, or physical ability!

935 Lies

A new report from The Center for Public Integrity called Iraq: The War Card says:

President George W. Bush and seven of his administration’s top officials, including Vice President Dick Cheney, National Security Adviser Condoleezza Rice, and Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld, made at least 935 false statements in the two years following September 11, 2001, about the national security threat posed by Saddam Hussein’s Iraq. Nearly five years after the U.S. invasion of Iraq, an exhaustive examination of the record shows that the statements were part of an orchestrated campaign that effectively galvanized public opinion and, in the process, led the nation to war under decidedly false pretenses.

On at least 532 separate occasions (in speeches, briefings, interviews, testimony, and the like), Bush and these three key officials, along with Secretary of State Colin Powell, Deputy Defense Secretary Paul Wolfowitz, and White House press secretaries Ari Fleischer and Scott McClellan, stated unequivocally that Iraq had weapons of mass destruction (or was trying to produce or obtain them), links to Al Qaeda, or both. This concerted effort was the underpinning of the Bush administration’s case for war.

Its time that a bipartisan group of US Representatives and Senators IMPEACH George W. Bush and Dick Cheney!

Interestingly I learned about this report from two VERY different blogs. A small demonstration of the diverse kinds of people who want Bush held responsible. Thanks Craig Newmark and Stan Goff!

Poll: Bullshit Is Most Important Issue For 2008 Voters

So far my favorite is the Onion’s War for the Whitehouse coverage of all the presidential bullshit going on. Bullshit is no laughing matter. The very scholarly book On Bullshit lets us know how serious it is.

One of the most salient features of our culture is that there is so much bullshit. Everyone knows this. Each of us contributes his share. But we tend to take the situation for granted. Most people are rather confident of their ability to recognize bullshit and to avoid being taken in by it. So the phenomenon has not aroused much deliberate concern. We have no clear understanding of what bullshit is, why there is so much of it, or what functions it serves. And we lack a conscientiously developed appreciation of what it means to us. In other words, as Harry Frankfurt writes, “we have no theory.”

Because you know “bullshit is the deciding factor in most elections”. We need another book to explain political bullshit. How about “On Political Bullshit”?

Recently I’ve gone crazy with the web video embeds on this blog. Let me know if the site is loading slow.

Vote for War Money, loose my vote

During the last election we voted in Democrats all over the place. The main reason? To stop the war in Iraq. So after months of fighting what happened? Bush got his money to continue his oil war. WTF!

Who do we blame? Republicans of course. But Democrats too.. I won’t forget this. Not for one second. Doesn’t matter to me if a single Democrat voted against it. THE WHOLE DEMOCRATIC party failed! Big time. I mean how does a majority loose like this? Seems like Dems inside the beltline are afraid of being called Anti-Solider. Such utter crap. Why would they even worry about this? Maybe their constituents believe it. How could you believe the fucking Rove spin machine?

What do we do now? Electoral politics took a BIG hit. Are their any political choices for the 70% of Americans who want the war in Iraq to end? Its time again for a popular movement to raise up a third party. (I don’t want to hear the defeatist crap about our electoral college system. Lieberman left and was elected. Sanders is a great Independent. Third party politics can be effective.) How many more failures for Dems to provide real progressive political change do we need to be convinced?

Here is the nasty story from the AP – Dems Back Down, Approve War Money. Here is another good bit of analysis from The Nation blog Capital Games, The Dems’ Self-Defeat on the Irar War Vote

We activate for the Democrats during the mid terms and this is how they repay us? I say revenge is imminent. Where are the anti-war people who are ready to run for some US Senate and House seats?

Note: I wrote this post last year. I decided to let it sit. It was written in anger… But it rings true now more than ever. Presidential and Senatorial candidates are running hard on a “change” platform. The intelligent politician who gets elected and provides REAL non-incremental change will have the love and respect of hundreds of millions of people. Yes, I can support Obama and call for more political parties.

ALSO: Check out The Iowa primary and two parties vs four by Rabble. It has some excellent analysis and describes how there is room for more than two parties in US National politics.
